सुभाषितम्

चिंतायाश्च चितायाश्च बिन्दुमात्रं विशिष्यते ।
चिता दहति निर्जीवं चिंता दहति जीवितम् ॥

एतस्मिन् सुभाषिते चिंता (worry) शब्दस्य चिता (funeral pyre) शब्देन सह तुलनां कृत्वा चिंतायाः दुष्प्रयोजनं बोधितम् । यथा लेखने द्वयोः शब्दयोः मध्ये बिन्दुमात्रम् एव भेदः भवति तथैव अर्थस्य विषये अपि ईषद् एव भेदः भवति । यथा चिता मृतं दहति, तथा चिंता जीवितं पीडयति दाहवत् । अतः चिंता हानिकारी भवति इति वयं जानीमः ।

I think you have raised a nice point :-)

i am also used to writing it chintaa.. with the half na and the ta

.. but since the subhaaShitam says "bindumaatram" , it was perhaps an editorial decision to write it with the binduH ...

the editors cud carify :-) .. i am assuming that the one with the bindu must also be technically correct... shud it be read as "chiMtaa" ?!

नमांसि
चिंता इति लेखनं साधु न । चिन्ता एव लेखनीयम् । परन्तु अत्र श्लोके यतः बिन्दुमात्रं भेदः इति उक्तं "for the effect" चिंता इति लिखितम् ।

It is not technically correct to write चिन्ता as चिंता. Since, in the shloka, it is said that the only difference is a dot, we wrote it that way. However, चिन्ता is the right way to write it.
